Sample Ceremonies, Vows & More

My hope is that your wedding service feels so perfect, so special, that you get out your copy at each anniversary and repeat your vows to each other.

Readings & Prayers...

There are so many wonderful choices. Some current favorites:

I love you, not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.

I love you, not only for what you have made of yourself,

But for what you are making of me.

I love you for the part of me that you bring out;

I love you for putting your head into my heaped up heart

And passing over all the foolish, weak things, that you can’t help dimly seeing there.

That no one else had looked quite far enough to find.

I love you because you have done more than any creed could have done to make me good,

and more than any fate could have done to make me happy.

And you have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign.

You have done it by being yourself

Perhaps that is what being a friend means after all.

The Prayer of St. Francis is loved by many:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let us sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is discord, union

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light

Where there is sadness, joy

O Divine Master, grant that we may not so much seek

To be consoled, as to console

To be understood, as to understand

To be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Here is a lovely spiritual prayer.

Spirit of Love and Life,

We thank you for bringing these two souls together. Having found each other, we ask you to bless their destinies that shall now be woven into one design, of both their perils and joys.

We ask that those who are nearest to the Bride and Groom be constantly enriched by the beauty and bounty of their love for one another; may their work be a joy that serves the world; and may their days be good and long upon the earth. Amen.

I work with couples to create a wedding ceremony that is personalized and perfect for them. I have several ceremony templates to work from. “A Perfect Spiritual Wedding” is the most popular wedding ceremony I officiate. For a more traditional service, couples often choose "A Beautiful Traditional Ceremony.” Many couples prefer to choose selections from both, mixing the two, as they craft a ceremony that is meaningful for them. Please visit my Contact page and send me an email if you'd like to request a copy of either or both of these ceremonies to review.

Favorite Vows...

(Bride), will you take (Groom) to be your husband; to love, honor, and cherish him, now and forevermore?

I will.

And (Groom), will you take (Bride) to be your wife; to love, honor, an cherish her now and forevermore?

I will.

(Bride and Groom), please repeat after me:

I want you to know that I love you,

And I will love you for the rest of my days.

I vow to trust you and respect you; tell the truth and embrace you.

Every day. All the time. And always.

This is my promise,

To share a lifetime of eternal, immeasurable love.

I like these vows also:

I, ….. ask you, ….. to be my partner, my lover, my friend and my husband (wife)

I announce and declare my intention

To give you my deepest friendship and love

Not only when your moments are high

But when they are low

Not only when you remember clearly Who You Are

But when you forget

Not only when you are acting with love

But when you are not

I further announce before God and those here present

That I will always see the Light of Divinity within you

And seek always to share the Light of Divinity within me

Even and especially in whatever moment of darkness may come.

It is my intention to be with you forever

In a holy partnership of the soul

That we may do together God’s work

Sharing all that is good within us

With all those whose lives we touch.

Two examples of favorites used to complete the ceremony:

May the blessing of light be with you always,

Light without and light within,

May the sun shine upon you and warm your heart

Until it glows like a great fire

So that others may feel the warmth of your love for one another.

And -

May the glory that rests upon all who love bless you and keep you,

filling you with happiness and a gracious spirit. Despite all changes  of fortune and time, may that which is noble and lovely and true, remain abundantly in your  hearts, giving you strength for all that lies ahead.
